In its medium-term strategy, UNESCO aims at strengthening the contribution of culture to sustainable development and to show the importance of interaction and dialogue among cultures for social cohesion and reconciliation to promote a culture of peace. To achieve this objective, the Organization focuses on the promotion of multilingualism, the diversity of cultural expressions and the development of creative industries, especially through the promotion and application of the Convention on the promotion and Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
