The Forum of Ministers of Culture and Officials in Charge of Cultural Policies of Latin America and the Caribbean was established in 1989 in the First Meeting of Ministers of Culture of the region held in Brazil. It is the oldest of its type and it is the space for reflection of the highest government cultural authorities in the region as it is the only space in which all the member States of Latin America and the Caribbean coincide.
The UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean facilitates, coordinates and funds the Technical Secretariat of the Forum, based in Havana after a request of the Member States for the creation of this position. Within the strategy of the Havana Office, the Forum of Ministers is its major partner for regional cooperation in the area of Culture, as it offers UNESCO a unique opportunity to interact with the highest cultural authorities of the region and to promote the Conventions, concepts and priorities of the Organization. |
