The second Encounter of Filmmakers from Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean and its Diasporas will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from 15 to 18 July 2012, organized by the Office of the Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase in coordination with the Festival de Cine Global Dominicano (FCGD) and the Foundation Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), announced Rigoberto López, President of the Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase and Omar de la Cruz, Director of FCGD, in a press conference held yesterday at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba.
Representing the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean in the press conference was Fernando Brugman, the Coordinator for the Culture programme, who “underscored the importance of this kind of initiatives, which translate UNESCO’s programme, in particular its Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, into practical measures at local level, and support the efforts of the Organization to show how Culture contributes to sustainable development.”
The organizers of the event said that some fifty representatives from 26 countries from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, North América and Europe have already confirmed their participation in the Encounter.
The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase is an initiative of the Cuban Institute for the Cinema Art and Industry (ICAIC) and the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, with the support and contribution of the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean since 2006. It is also one of the projects of the Plan of Action of the Forum of Ministers of Culture of Latin America and the Caribbean.
