Museums – Struggle Against Illicit Trafficking
 
 

Museums and movable cultural property are not only repositories of identity and cultural diversity, but also powerful agents of social cohesion and human development. In areas that have suffered conflict, strengthening museums also contributes to reconciliation within the country and with bordering countries, and it also contributes to social cohesion. The strategy of UNESCO that aims at the protection of cultural property has the dual objective of applying the existing conventions and implementing operational activities at the national level.
